Summary
Avidyne continues to accept R9 screens or blades for evaluation and repair. Because some R9 components are no longer produced by their original suppliers, replacement parts are limited, and we may not be able to complete every repair. Each R9 screen or blade sent in for repair is subject to an $863 (MSRP) evaluation fee. This covers troubleshooting the unit and identifying the cause of the problem. After evaluation, we will tell you whether a repair is possible and what it will cost before any repair work begins.
Applies to
This article applies to Avidyne Entegra Release 9 (R9) integrated flight deck hardware, including line-replaceable units such as displays, integrated avionics blades, ADAHRS, and the R9 keyboard/controller. It does not apply to IFD-series navigators or Vantage systems.
How the repair process works
- Contact Product Support. Describe the problem and provide the unit part number, serial number, current software installed, and aircraft tail number. We will troubleshoot with you first to confirm which unit needs service and provide the link to request service.
- Get an RMA. If the unit (or blade) needs service, Product Support issues a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number. Units received without an RMA may be delayed.
- Authorize the evaluation fee. You must authorize the evaluation fee before we evaluate the unit.
- Evaluation. Our repair team investigates the unit and identifies the failure.
- Repair quote or findings. We contact you with one of these outcomes:
- Repairable: we provide a repair quote. Repair begins only after you approve it.
- Not repairable due to parts availability: we explain what we found and return the unit to you.
- Return. The unit is shipped back to you, repaired or as received.
Evaluation fee
- Amount: $863 (MSRP) per unit.
- What it covers: bench testing, troubleshooting, and identifying the root cause of the reported problem.
- When it applies: to every R9 unit received for repair, whether or not the unit can be repaired.
- Non-refundable: the fee covers the technician time and test equipment used during evaluation, so it is charged even if a repair cannot be completed.
- Not included: repair parts and labor (quoted separately after evaluation) and shipping.
If a repair isn't possible
If the required part is not available, we will return your unit with a summary of our findings. That summary identifies the failed component, which can help you and your installer decide on next steps. Product Support can also discuss available options with you, which may include:
- An exchange or replacement unit, if one is available at the time.
- Upgrade paths to current Avidyne products for your aircraft.
Exchange-unit availability changes over time, so please ask Product Support about current options.
FAQ
Is Avidyne still supporting R9? Yes. We continue to provide technical support and to accept R9 units for evaluation and repair. Some repairs are limited by the availability of specific parts.
Can you tell me whether my unit can be repaired before I send it in? Not reliably. Many failures can only be pinpointed on the bench, which is what the evaluation is for. Product Support can share what we know from your symptoms when you request the RMA.
Why is there a fee if you can't fix the unit? The evaluation takes the same technician time and test equipment whether or not a part is available. It also gives you a documented finding of what failed.
How long does an evaluation take? Turnaround varies with repair volume. Product Support can give you a current estimate when the RMA is issued.
